Lucky to be alive...

On Thursday evenings my husband Brian plays in a basketball league on the Westside of G.R. Whenever possible we like to take the kids to watch, well this past week we were lucky enough to be able to do just that. the game was great and they played awesome. We were all ready to go home and tuck the kids in bed and be adults for a little while.

Well little did we know that our luck was about to change. Brian's car was in for a set of new tires and on our way home we stopped and dropped him off at his car. We followed each other down West River and came to the light at Northland and West River.

I was in the far left lane with both of the kids and Brian was in the right lane, both of us waited for the light to turn green so we could take a left up the hill. So the light changes and I go, little did I realize a guy come from the other direction decided he didn't need to stop for the red. And we hit him as he travel 65-70 mph. I happened so fast. The kids were screaming(a good sign), I was still trying to get my wits about me and I look down and the air bag had gone off and the car was filling with dust. I had to get them out.

The side doors wouldn't open so I had to hand my children out through the passenger door, and pass them on to perfect strangers just to get them to safety. The van I am sure is a total loss. I have never been so scared in my life and yet I couldn't cry because my kids were so upset I was set on making them feel safe.

I was lucky to be alive to have them and that my husband, by chance was one car over. He saw it all and I can only imagine what that was like to watch your family!

We are all alive, sore, black and blue, but the guardian angels were on our side!

I realize later that I take life for granted everyday, I cruise through my day, sometimes not even remembering small things. I hate to say it, but God wanted me to slow down, and I get it now. Please take our accident as a sign to slow down in your own lives, look at the small stuff and kiss your children every second you can...I know all to well how fast that can be taken away!

What happened? How do the go from so little, well almost little considering Brandon Started out in this world at 10lbs 7oz, but no the less little and then you blink and he is 3! The big preschooler who loves his little sister and wants to do everything on his own!
We had a low key birthday this year, just a cake made by mom (me), a pumpkin patch visit with Papa and Grandma and then a pizza party with his cousin and Aunts and Uncles. Perfect for the little boy who loves his family more than anything!

Camping 2008...Petersen, McKellar, Henry

We went, 2 weeks ago, camping with our family and friends and even with the weather being chilly, it was a relaxing and fun experience! We will do this again soon. Hopefully our kids will be bigger and get more out of it. Ava spent the 1st 2 days sleeping because she couldn't handle the cold. Brandon woke up at 6 am " I need to get dressed and go play". Jake Henry spent most of the time trying new things to eat such as, rocks, acorns and sand! While the McKellar kids ,who are experienced campers, took it all in stride! Thanks to all of you guys for helping us create another Petersen memory! Your the best and we love ya! P.S. I must have not taken a family picture of the McKellar's but I had a good one of Bryan and Ava.

Ava's 1st try at ice cream...I think she like's it!

While camping we took the kids all out for ice cream, and well even if she is only 6 months old, why should she have to miss out on all the fun? She loved it, and now if anything edible is near her she does the same thing with her mouth to try and get a taste. If only we all enjoyed new foods this much!

Ava Kelly

Since I found out I was pregnant with our 2nd child i knew we were having a little girl. it was just a gut feeling, and though I always wanted to have all boys, she has been and addition to our family that was well needed. Her smiles are infectious, and her laugh can actually make you laugh to the point of tears or wetting your pants. She has learned to sit up on her own, roll over and before we know it will be crawling! And she is only 6 months old. Hard to believe she had accomplished so much in such a small time. makes you forget how fast things really go till you have a 3yr old and a baby! She is our little blessing, and I can't wait to see what she grows up to be and weather or not she is going to have curly hair like her mama.
